It is a cross section of why he is awesome; there is science fiction, time travel, fantasy, historical and mythic storytelling/5(14).
"The Horn of Time the Hunter" and "Progress" are clearly the best stories in the book. The first is a haunting account of a first contact between humans and an aquatic alien race and of the sound of a hunter "pursuing a quarry that wept as it ran" (26)/5(3).
On these Horn Book reproductions, note that there are only 24 letters in the alphabet instead of the 26 we use today. In Tudor times, the letters "i" and "j" were the same as well as "u" and "v". Many horn books also included the Lord's Prayer, as religion was a significant part of a child's life.

The horn was left in cold water for several weeks, which separated the usable part from the bone. It was then heated, first in boiling water then by fire, and pressed by plates and machines to make it smooth and transparent.

Horn still had a day job at the time. Once his first book began to gain momentum, Horn decided to write full-time. He realized that his passion and future lay in storytelling.
It took the author six months to. The Horn of Valere (/vɑˈɫiːɹ/) is a powerful artifact. Little is known of how it works, but the effect is clear: when the Horn is sounded, the great heroes of the Pattern are summoned to battle, will serve the Trumpeter but always on the side of the Light.
